Materials:

19" Birch Plywood base supplied by C & D BASKETS

2 Large Bushel Handles

7/8" Flat Reed for Stakes

5/8" Flat Reed for Weavers

7/8" Flat Reed for Weavers

5/8" Flat Oval for Rim

1/4" Flat Oval for Lashing

#2 Round Reed for Stabilizing row

#3 Seagrass (rim filler)

Preparation:

   Cut 40 pieces of 7/8" flat reed at 18" long for stakes of the basket 

(We have also seen this basket made with 1" as the stakes and the weavers.)

Weaving Instructions:

-Insert the 40 stakes into the base (spacing them evenly around base)

-Slightly wet the stakes by dipping them into a pan of water.

-Twine around the base for 1 row using # 2 round reed to lock stakes into place.

-Upstake.

-Weave 12 rows of 7/8" Flat Reed (natural)

-Weave 8 row of 5/8 Flat Reed (natural)

-Basket Should measure approximate 15" high (to top of rim) x 19 - 22"

-Cut and tuck the stakes.

-Insert Bushel handles evenly spaced on opposite sides of the basket.
